Goshen College seeks an Assistant Controller to join as a critical member of the Accounting and Finance team. They will be responsible for the organization’s critical financial functions  including monthly and quarterly closing procedures, assisting in the preparation of the
financial statements, fixed asset tracking, federal filing requirements including 1098-T and 1099 tax forms, endowment reporting, and grant financial reporting. They will also serve as back-up for the Controller.

Core Competencies:

  • Calculate and record quarterly and annual journal entries and reconciliations including but not limited to pledges receivable, bad debt, annuities, and prepaid expenses.
  • Work closely with the Controller in preparation of schedules and footnotes for the audited financial statements.
  • Contribute to the preparation of accurate and complete internal financial reporting.
  • Prepare endowment accounting entries and reporting.
  • Maintain the fixed asset management system including the recording of acquisitions, disposals and depreciation.
  • Ensure proper reporting of student tuition charges, payments and tax reporting.
  • Work with the grant team to ensure proper budgeting, set-up, tracking, and reporting of grant funds.
  • Responsible for various federal reporting requirements to the US Department of Education.
  • Perform various accounting reconciliations and maintenance of supporting subledgers.
  • Assist the Controller in special projects, as needed.

Additional Skills and Characteristics:

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to effectively and efficiently manage and complete projects within deadlines and time constraints.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft office and proficiency in Microsoft Excel.

Education/Professional Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting required.
  • A minimum of three years recent experience in accounting.
  • CPA preferred, but not required.
